As a last resort, Marco notices that Star left her magic wand behind, and against Janna's advice, he picks it up. However, Star convinces her to stop by pointing out that she will just prove herself to be the villain everyone claims her to be. The one part that does stand out, though, in spite of all of the tension throughout, is Marco's confrontation with Hekapoo regarding Star. The sad moment is ruined when Tom attempts to return home and his portal will not work. As Marco tries to fashion something to fight them off, he recounts how he tried to cheer up Star because she left her phone number for her crush, a -playing student named Oskar, but he has not called her back.
On Song Day, a large crowd, including Marco, Star's parents and the Magic High Commission, gather to hear Star's song. When she finally shows up, she is still on good terms with him and she states that she still thinks he is great and suggests that Star is someone worth keeping, leaving Marco feeling good about himself. To find out the truth, Moon and Eclipsa secretly infiltrate the Royal Archive, where the entire history of the Butterfly family is held. Janna poses as a Quest Buy employee and takes them through a restricted section where every shelf looks seemingly empty. When she finds Marco unharmed and discovers he used her wand, Marco tells her that he didn't have any other options. The focus shifts from Marco's inability to keep both sides of his life separate by forcing them to collide, and it becomes clear that the portals are a result of Star's dreaming, and everything starts to make a lot more sense.
